How to become a Great Writer

I have been a writer for over five years now, and I still get intimidated by blank pages. There are instances where I internalize great ideas, but then I struggle to assert the right words needed for my article. Some writers also run out of gas halfway into their writing; hence they panic and give up.

Today I want to show you how all these struggles are part of excellent writing. I have interacted with many accomplished writers who acknowledged most of the struggles I mentioned earlier. Therefore, the text will conceptualize five main tips on becoming a great writer.

  1. Great Writers Must Write continuously

You cannot become great in any field if you barely practice. Writing is a skill like playing basketball, and great basketball players train for thousands of hours. The same applies to writing; great writers should ensure they practice as much as possible. Many a time, it does not matter what you write, but it should be continuous.

When I began writing, I met a friend who paid me to write for his website. I needed the money, so I wrote numerous articles every day. Over time, I realized my typing speed increased, and I could quickly internalize ideas.

I started writing 500 words articles in less than thirty minutes with minimal mistakes and improved grammar. Therefore, great writers should be willing to write continuously to gain confidence and perfect their craft.

2. Great Writers Read

Writing and reading go hand in hand and those who are not willing to read cannot become great writers. Have you been in situations where you read a text for hours yet you cannot write anything about it?

That happens because writing and reading are intertwined. Great writers must internalize a subject before they write extensively on it. Reading also helps in mastering transitions and prepositions that are key in delivering a subject.

Many people are discouraged because they think they have to read all the Harry Porter books before they are acknowledged as good readers. In my opinion, writers can read short contents regularly and still thrive in their endeavors. I struggle to read long books as well thus I have to break them into short chapters.

Most importantly, great writers should develop a reading culture that is flexible and enjoyable. They can read blogs and short novels that are educative and entertaining. That will instigate major improvements when it comes to effectively writing exceptional documents.

3. Focus on the Little Things

Great writers must pay attention to the 'little things' that contribute to effective sentence structure. Capital and small letters are vital in constructing complete sentences. In most instances, readers opt out when writers make such minor mistakes.

Commas and full stops must be used effectively in sentences to avoid interfering with the flow of sentences. There were instances where I messed up great articles because of failure to pay attention to the 'little things,'

It is imperative to allocate enough time to editing texts before submitting them to the reader. Writers should go through their texts five times before eventually outlining the final content. Those in a hurry should consider using applications like Grammarly that are very helpful in editing articles.

4. Take Risks and Consider Making Mistakes

You cannot thrive in writing if you are scared of taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone. Today's most accomplished writers have written thousands of bad articles in the past, but they never gave up. They learned from their mistakes and improved over time.

Hence, great writers should take risks and consider writing about subjects outside their niche. I could have never advanced in writing if I didn't take chances.

Writers must never shy off from critical reviews since that comes with the territory. The main essence of writing is for others to read and comment on the work. Accomplished writers deal with negative reviews all the time, but they never give up. They internalize constructive criticism and improve on their subsequent assignments.

5. Think about the Audience

The audience controls the blueprints and language employed by the writer. For instance, Students must avoid particular examples when writing for their teachers and parents. In the same way, teachers cannot use inciting analogies when writing texts addressed to students from different races.

Before writing anything, great writers should ask themselves about potential readers and their mindset. That will help the writer to employ certain analogies and adequately use them. Writers who never think about their audience are bound to upset individuals or fail to get enough readership.

Most importantly, great writers must think about potential readers and consider outlining ideas that will motivate readers to think critically. Also, great writers can write to entice readers and entertain them with unique ideologies.

Bottom Line

Conclusively, average writers can become great through habitual reading and writing. As outlined earlier, writing is a skill like any other hence great writers must put in the work. Those who want to excel in the field should write hundreds of articles (An article a day will do).

I improved and mastered my craft by writing many articles on different subjects. Beginners should focus on writing about their passion since that will motivate them to write further.

Write something today and start your journey towards becoming the greatest writer of our time.
